APPLIED FUTURES
We can't predict futures. We can rehearse them.
Every institution with a hard decision to make about the future runs into the same problem: the assumptions that matter most are the ones nobody says out loud or even realises exist. Meetings produce performance. Reports produce agreement without belief. Consultations produce the answers people think are safe to give.
A rehearsal produces disclosure. I design structured encounters with the future, built from research and worked through by the people the decision will land on, not just the ones who sign it off. Sometimes that is a wargame, where people make choices under pressure and live with the consequences. Sometimes the question needs taking apart instead: critical uncertainties, causal layered analysis, backcasting, or an artefact from a future made real enough to argue with. The method fits the question. What surfaces, either way, is what people actually assume, value and fear.
The output isn't consensus or a prediction. It is a map of the assumptions, risks and trade-offs beneath the decision, one your team keeps using long after I leave.
WORK WITH ME

1
COMMISSION A REHEARSAL
Built around your live question and run with your people. Could be a strategy game, a structured foresight process, a designed encounter: whichever the question needs.

2
BRING FUTURES IN-HOUSE
Upskill your own team with a two-day course in designing futures rehearsals, supervision of your first self-run session, and materials you keep.

3
FUTURES EXPERIENCE
A public-facing speculative work: an installation, an artefact, an exhibition. When the audience is the public, the future has to be built well enough to be fully immersive.
→ SELECTED FUTURES WORK
A wargame on AI governance in the Global South, designed for humanitarian teams in the field
An escape room that challenged SXSW attendees to solve the Great Identity Spill of 2035
For CFOs plotting the road to 2050, with every decision scored by a live decarbonisation engine
Selected design fiction and speculative work on everything from Circular Economy tomoatoes to the metaverse
